Northumberland CVA AGM

The speaker for the Northumberland CVA AGM is Dr Jim Brown, Consultant in Public Health, Adult Social Care and Strategic Health Commissioning.  Jim has been involved in the development of the Empowering People and Communities strand of the NCC Public Health Strategy, recognising the value and benefits of asset-based approaches to improving the health and wellbeing of communities.  He will talk about ‘The Value of the VCS and the importance of its contribution in reducing poverty and improving health and wellbeing’.

Following the AGM, workshop activity will use an asset-based approach to help identify the gifts, skills, knowledge and passions that runs through every individual and organisation involved with the voluntary sector in Northumberland.  This approach is about valuing already available assets in order to nurture them and connect them for the benefit of the voluntary and community sector.

The first stage of this approach is a conversation about ‘what is strong, not what is wrong’ within the voluntary and community sector in Northumberland at the present time.  We’ll then look to identify some of the skills, knowledge and passions that could be used to build on those strengths.  Finally, we’ll investigate some of the practical measures we can take to make this happen.

Running order:

11:00am – 12:00pm: AGM
12:00pm – 12.45pm: Buffet lunch
12:45pm to 2.00pm: Workshop, ‘Making the most of what we have’

Places will be limited for this event so please book early by emailing enquire@northumberlandcva.org.uk.
