Have your say on health and care: Alnwick Event

Northumberland County Council and NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are working together to improve the overall health and wellbeing of the county’s residents and reduce inequalities over the next ten years.

Health and care leaders from the Health and Wellbeing Board have drafted a new Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy for the county. This explains what health and wellbeing priorities the board has set in order to tackle the county’s health needs. Rather than taking action on everything at once, it sets priorities for joint action with the aim of making a real impact on people’s lives.

People living and working across Northumberland are being asked to share their views on future health and care priorities by completing an online survey.  Your feedback  will be gathered and considered to help shape the final Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy which is due to be published later this year. Four enagement events are taking place across the county. The other events are:

  • Wednesday 15 August: 2.00pm – 4.30pm, Morpeth Town Hall, Morpeth, Northumberland, NE61 1LZ
  • Thursday 16 August: 2.00pm – 4.30pm, Isabella Community Centre, Ogle Drive, Blyth, Northumberland, NE24 5JF
  • Friday 17 August: 2.00pm – 4.30pm, Hexham Abbey, Hexham, Northumberland, NE46 3NB

The online survey can be completed here until Friday 7 September.

More details can be found on the council’s website here.

If you would like to attend one of the events or for further information please email: melodyprice@nhs.net or call 01670 335 185.

Community Action Northumberland Spring Health Conference

Each year, Community Action Northumberland (CAN) organises a conference focusing on a critical issue facing rural Northumberland.
Two years ago the conference looked at deprivation in a rural context and last year attempted to dive into the complex issue of transport. This year the conference will focus on health – the key issues viewed from a strategic perspective and local solutions, both existing and potential. Health emerged from a 2017 national survey of rural residents as the issue of highest concern and is the subject of continuing debate at national and more local levels.
CAN president, Lord Curry of Kirkharkle, will chair the conference and there will be a range of speakers from Northumberland Public Health, Northumberland County Council and local initiatives as well short presentations from external speakers to initiate discussion on possible new approaches such as social prescribing – Healthwatch Northumberland’s Derry Nugent will be there presenting the results of our annual survey.
The conference will begin with a buffet lunch and include plenty of time for discussion. The venue is St Mary’s Hall at St Mary’s Park, Stannington – this is a new village hall venue, provided as part of the new housing development on this site.
Places at the conference are free and can be booked here.

LGBT Community Culture training session

Are you a member of the lesbian, gay bisexual and/or trans community? Do you have an interest in social inclusion, health and wellbeing? Would you like to be a part of a network that listens and provides opportunities for you to share your values? Would you like to be an LGBT community role model?

Our community culture project (managed by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and funded through the National Lottery Big Lottery Fund) aims to raise awareness of topics and build more inclusive networks and peer support in Northumberland.

These training events will help you to better understand the things that LGBT people have in common, and how homophobia and heterosexism can make LGBT lives more difficult. The events are mainly aimed at LGBT people or people who have a strong personal understanding of the LGBT experience.
