Join us on Friday 17 November, 1pm-2pm to hear a presentation from Janet Nesbitt, a volunteer from Stroke Association. (Please note this event has been rescheduled from Friday 10 November).

In this free, online public event Janet will provide an overview of stroke, including risk factors, stroke effects and what to do if you think someone is having a stroke.

We will also hear about local and national Stroke Association services, including support for stroke survivors and their carers, how to access advice and information and opportunities for volunteering. There will be a chance to ask questions.

Tania will talk to us about having a limb amputated, tips to help manage and how we can help others living with their loss of a limb. The Limbless Association is the largest civilian limb loss charity in the UK. As a national charity, working with amputees and sector professionals for over 39 years, the Limbless Association offers both practical and emotional support for amputees throughout their pre and post-amputation journey.

Join us for our next free online event on Friday 13 January, 1pm-2pm, to hear from Russell Fleming, Communications Manager at ME Association. This is the rescheduled date for the cancelled event in December.

Russell has had ME/CFS for 22 years but in recent years has been able to return to work for the national charity.

The ME Association provides support and information to those affected, training and advice to health and social care professionals and funds medical research in the hope that one day there will be effective treatments and even a cure. It also provides advice and support around Long Covid due to its many similarities with ME.

We will hear an overview of ME and Long Covid, management techniques and support available nationally and locally. There will also be a chance to ask questions.

If you live or work in Northumberland, join us at a free, online public event to hear from Ruth Smith of Arthritis Action.

Ruth will be joining us to talk about arthritis, self-management, and resources for people living with the condition. She will cover topics including keeping active, pain management and diet.

The event is suitable for people who live or work in Northumberland and are living with or working with any form of arthritis, including osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis and gout. The presentation may also be useful for those with other conditions causing joint pain such as fibromyalgia.

We’ll be joining a host of health and wellbeing organisations at The Alnwick Garden on Thursday 26 October for a free wellbeing event in the Pavilion Room.

Offering advice and information on the day will be Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Northumberland Fire and Rescue, Northern Cancer Voices, Carers Northumberland and many more!

The event starts at 10am until 1pm and is open to all. No ticket is needed to access the event.

Jenny will talk to us about what the menopause is, its impact on our future health and the treatment and lifestyle options which can help to manage symptoms. She will also give us information about useful support and resources provided by The Menopause Charity. There will be a chance to ask questions after the presentation.

The session is suitable for anyone wanting to know more about the menopause and what support is available, including those experiencing menopause and their partners, friends and family members. Join us for our next online lunchtime event on Friday 14 July, 1pm-2pm. We will hear from Dr Charles Shepherd, Hon. Medical Adviser at the ME Association, who will talk to us about Long Covid and the similarities with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

He will explain what is known about the condition and discuss the best approach to management in our current state of knowledge. He will also talk about how functional ability and quality of life might be improved.
