MEET THE HEALTHWATCH NORTHUMBERLAND STAFF TEAM

Derry Nugent

Derry Nugent

Project Coordinator

Derry leads the Healthwatch Northumberland staff team and works with the Board to ensure we listen to the communities of Northumberland when they talk about health and social care and use the strength of this collective voice to build relationships with providers and influence change.

Derry has wide experience working in senior and leadership roles in the public and charity sectors. She started her career in the Citizens Advice Bureau service before moving to grant making and fundraising. She is a serial volunteer and is currently a Justice of the Peace.

Lesley Tweddell

Lesley Tweddell

Engagement Officer

Before joining Healthwatch Northumberland, Lesley worked in the voluntary sector as a Project Coordinator for Bedlington and Morpeth Community Allotments, engaging residents through events and workshops to improve health and wellbeing. She has also worked with adults with learning difficulties at Hepscott Horticultural Skills Unit.
Lesley is keen to build relationships to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and represented, particularly hard to reach groups. As Engagement Officer, she works with the team to promote health and social care services and raise the role of Healthwatch Northumberland.

Caroline Janes

Caroline Janes

Engagement and Insight Officer

Caroline has joined the team as Engagement and Insight Officer, where she is looking forward to listening to and championing the views of patients, carers and families across Northumberland. Caroline brings her skills in research to the role, evaluating and reporting on service user feedback to gain insight into people’s experiences of health and social care.
Before Caroline joined Healthwatch Northumberland she worked for Sustrans, the national charity helping people to walk and cycle more. Prior to that she worked with Fulfilling Lives, a project delivered by Changing Lives which aims to improve the lives of people experiencing multiple and complex needs.

Claire Jackson

Claire Jackson

Communication and Marketing Officer

Before joining the team Claire worked for a leisure trust where she led on the Better Health at Work Scheme. She leads the PR, communication and marketing functions for both Healthwatch Northumberland and Adapt (NE).

With a keen interest in public health and health inequalities, Claire aims to reach as many people as possible, raising awareness of Healthwatch Northumberland’s work and sharing health promotion and prevention messages.

Emma Grimwood

Emma Grimwood

Volunteer Officer

Emma joined the team after five years with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as a Volunteer Coordinator for the breastfeeding peer support service.
She has extensive experience in the voluntary sector having worked for Barnardos, Shelter and The RSPB. Her own volunteer journey began as a teenager when she set up a befriending project at a residential home. Passionate about empowering people to have their voices heard, she has been a volunteer citizen advocate for 20 years.
Emma is looking forward to building a diverse and effective volunteer team to support the work of Healthwatch Northumberland, enabling more people in the county to share their experiences of care services.

Laura Kane

Laura Kane

Communication and Marketing Assistant

Before joining the Healthwatch Northumberland team, Laura gained experience in communication and marketing across a variety of sectors including housing, education and for a PR agency. She is also a Communications Volunteer for the Northumberland MS Society group, helping them develop their communication channels.

Laura is looking forward to raising awareness about Healthwatch Northumberland’s work and helping the people of Northumberland’s voices to be heard. She enjoys creating interesting content and using social media platforms to engage with people.
