A collaborative review of services for people with heart disease in the North East and North Cumbria

Cardiac conditions have long dominated other causes of ill health and premature death in the north of England. Within the North East and North Cumbria, whilst we have many high performing cardiac services, health outcomes do not compare well to other parts of the country and uptake of these services is uneven, leading to:

• Inequity of access to excellent patient care
• Variation in patient outcomes and experience
• Commissioning issues – artificial divisions across patient pathways
• Workforce pressures – difficulties optimising the use of specialist resources
• Growing demand for services – for ischaemic heart disease/aortic valve disease
• Longer term risks around affordability/sustainability

Purpose of the event

This event is an opportunity to:

• Come together and share your views
• Listen to key partners from across the system
• Help to clarify the scope of the review and priorities for action
• Get involved in shaping the future of cardiology services across the region, from prevention through to the delivery of highly complex interventions
