The Living With and Beyond Cancer team are organising a health and wellbeing event at East Bedlington Community Centre. This is open to anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis (current or previous) and lives in the Northumberland area. You can also book an additional place for a friend, family member or carer. Your guest can attend sessions or enjoy a break in the on-site coffee shop.
The day will include the opportunity to find out what’s on in your local area, including groups, services and activities as well as the chance to try some of our fun, practical sessions for happiness and health.
Practical sessions (lasting 30 minutes to an hour) at the event include:
Men’s Sheds and Outdoor Projects – your chance to learn more about woodland walking, outdoor adventuring, wood carving using a shave horse, allotment projects and the local Men’s Sheds projects.
Talking Matters Northumberland – need a little help on how to get a good night’s sleep? Would you like to learn how to feel calmer or lift your mood? This session is packed full of top tips from the experts. A session guaranteed to get you feeling good.
FACT (Fighting All Cancers Together) – FACT is a North East based charity which has new bases in Bedlington and Whitley Bay. The heart of the work they do is to strengthen the network of support available in the area, and to make it easier to access support at a time when people least feel like looking for help. FACT offer direct support to those diagnosed with cancer, their family, carers and friends. They offer regular help, support and social opportunities for people going through the cancer journey.
Health Trainer Service – Bursting with nutritional goodness, this session is perfect for you if you’d like to learn more about making healthy lifestyle changes in a fun way. This session will talk you through how to make small changes that will improve your health and wellbeing and link you in with local activities. Our very own healthy lifestyle team will be ready to serve you up the very best knowledge on how to make healthy changes using tried and tested methods.
There will also be an opportunity to wander around our stalls and chat to organisations such as The Northumbria Cancer Patient and Carer Group, Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group, Support Planners, Family Gateway, Active Northumberland, Age UK Northumberland and many more.
