The Living With and Beyond Cancer team are organising a health and wellbeing event at East Bedlington Community Centre. This is open to anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis (current or previous) and lives in the Northumberland area. You can also book an additional place for a friend, family member or carer. Your guest can attend sessions or enjoy a break in the on-site coffee shop.
The day will include the opportunity to find out what’s on in your local area, including groups, services and activities as well as the chance to try some of our fun, practical sessions for happiness and health.
Practical sessions (lasting 30 minutes to an hour) at the event include:
Men’s Sheds and Outdoor Projects – your chance to learn more about woodland walking, outdoor adventuring, wood carving using a shave horse, allotment projects and the local Men’s Sheds projects.
Talking Matters Northumberland – need a little help on how to get a good night’s sleep? Would you like to learn how to feel calmer or lift your mood? This session is packed full of top tips from the experts. A session guaranteed to get you feeling good.
FACT (Fighting All Cancers Together) – FACT is a North East based charity which has new bases in Bedlington and Whitley Bay. The heart of the work they do is to strengthen the network of support available in the area, and to make it easier to access support at a time when people least feel like looking for help. FACT offer direct support to those diagnosed with cancer, their family, carers and friends. They offer regular help, support and social opportunities for people going through the cancer journey.
Health Trainer Service – Bursting with nutritional goodness, this session is perfect for you if you’d like to learn more about making healthy lifestyle changes in a fun way. This session will talk you through how to make small changes that will improve your health and wellbeing and link you in with local activities. Our very own healthy lifestyle team will be ready to serve you up the very best knowledge on how to make healthy changes using tried and tested methods.
There will also be an opportunity to wander around our stalls and chat to organisations such as The Northumbria Cancer Patient and Carer Group, Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group, Support Planners, Family Gateway, Active Northumberland, Age UK Northumberland and many more. There will also be a number of Cancer Nurses Specialists’ available to chat to on the day.
Free parking is available and refreshments will be available during the day, including a lunchtime buffet.

We have our wellies ready for the Bellingham Show – we’ll be there with our Healthwatch Northumberland stand and bright green polo tops! This is a great opportunity for people living in rural locations in Northumberland to talk to us about their and their family’s experiences of health and social care. We’ll have lots of activities for children and giveaways – sign up to our newsletter or give us some feedback and you could get a fluffy pen or stress ball!
Entertainment at the show this year will include live bands, horses, sheep, terrier racing, children’s activities, good food, crafts, sheep, traditional games, wrestling, Northumbrian piping, beer tents, children’s rides, vintage vehicles, dog show, fell racing and a motocross stunt display team as the main attraction.

Members of the public are invited to attend the NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Annual Public Meeting. The Annual Public Meeting will be held on Wednesday 27 June 2018 at 10.00am in Committee Room 1, County Hall, Morpeth.
This is an opportunity for local people to find out how the CCG has performed in the past year and how it plans to meet the needs of local communities in the future.
At the meeting the CCG will reflect on progress and achievements made in 2017/18 and will present its annual report and accounts. There will also be an opportunity for members of the public to ask the CCG’s Governing Body questions.

Elderberries runs a range of activities for older people, from keeping active sessions such as pilates and a walking group, to tea dances and footcare. It offers monthly clinic café sessions in partnership with NHS that offer a range of informative talks and ad hoc opportunities for arts and culture sessions including music performances, silk painting sessions and memory sessions.
There is also the Elderberries Drop In, offered three times per week for over 55s to come and relax, chat and enjoy tea and cake and make new friends. This provides a valuable local facility for older people.
This vintage summer party will feature professional singing trio ‘Darling Dollies’ who specialise in 1940s close harmony singing, with a vintage vibe. The Riff Raff Ukelele Band will also perform.

This event is from Ageing Well in Northumberland is a chance to meet local communities and charities for older people. The aim is to help older people in the area find out more about staying active, involved and well, plus activities and volunteering opportunities in the area. Local organisations, including Healthwatch Northumberland, will be there with information stands, brimming with useful advice for local residents. MP Guy Opperman will be there to answer any questions and there will be complimentary tea and cake on offer.
